Real Life: Sharing, Pausing & New Projects
4 Minute Read: Vulnerability, Taoism, Chinese Medicine, integrative medicine, skincare, clean beauty, weight loss, coaching.
Well, hello :). Here we are at “Real Life writing day” again…and here I am still feeling resistance to sharing. It’s nothing against you all! But so interesting…when sharing the personal feels too tender. I’ve written more about that – and being vulnerable – here.
Mostly, I’m learning to listen to what my heart needs, when it comes to how much (or how little) to share. And to notice when and why that ebbs and flows.
Some of it is about feeling safe. Some of it is about not needing to share all the things. Always, always, it’s about pausing before filling the space with words (or actions)…especially if the ego seems desperate to do so.
I’ve been revisiting one of my favourite chapters from the Tao Te Ching recently. It goes this way:
To talk little is natural.
High winds do not last all morning.
Heavy rain does not last all day.
Why is this? Heaven and earth!
If heaven and earth cannot make things eternal,
How is it possible for humans?
Those who follow the Tao
Are at one with the Tao.
Those who are virtuous
Those who lose the way
When you are at one with the Tao,
The Tao welcomes you.
When you are at one with Virtue,
The Virtue is always there.
When you are at one with loss,
The loss is experienced willingly.
Those who do not trust enough
Will not be trusted.
~ Lao Tsu (Chapter 23)
Where are you, in the ebb and flow of things?
New posts, projects + offerings
One thing I don’t mind sharing is a glimpse into what I’ve been up to at Alchemist Eating.
I posted a couple in-depth articles on reaching and sustaining a healthy bodyweight this week:
Find one on Chinese Medicine + weight loss here.
And another on how our holistic approach aligns with the latest “diet science” here.
The new Skincare Inside + Out includes eating + lifestyle guidance, plus herbs and a skincare prescription.
This alchemy of inner + outer care for skin and self brings way better, deeper results than slapping on the latest miracle potion. (And, truthfully, offers tons of value even if you’re not into skincare.)
I have something bigger in the works too…and it has me incredibly excited.
Not quite time to talk about that passion project, but please stay tuned – especially if you’re a Chinese Medicine student or just interested in Chinese Medicine generally. (Geesh, I feel so secretive this week!)
Lastly, a super-quick promo. Jump down to the week’s links if this doesn’t interest you, but at age 44, I'm thrilled about Beautycounter's just-launched Countertime line.
These nontoxic beauty products are clinically proven to plump, firm + brighten skin, thanks to Beautycounter’s innovative Retinatural Complex (like retinol but NOT TOXIC). Some call it anti-aging, but I cringe at that term; how about #betterwithage.
I’ll leave you with the link in case you want to meet the collection. Feel free to contact me for a fact sheet comparing Countertime's Retinatural with the toxic retinol found in tons of skincare products.
Meanwhile, this week’s…

What's going on in your kid’s brain when you read them a story? Fascinating, important read on developing brains…and the differences between audio, animation, illustrated storybook reading, and dialogic reading (interactive reading on a caretaker’s lap) when it comes to kids.
What Norwegian packed lunches teach us about minimalism. Though my own lunch looks different (no sandwiches here!), it too is perfectly boring, wonderfully routine, and brings comfort while combatting decision fatigue. Here’s to keeping meals simple…just the right amount…uncomplicated.
P.S., Do you pack your lunches…or eat out? What’s in your lunchbox? xo.
Life by design.
When you’re making changes, caring accountability makes a world of difference.
