Where there is darkness, light

2 Minute Read: Winter solstice, solace, Prayer of St. Fancis, Taoism, hope, faith.

This solstice – this pivot between darkness and light – these are my guide. These are my place of practice.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Tao Te Ching

Approach the universe with Tao,
And evil will have no power.
Not that evil is not powerful,
But its power will not be used to harm others.
Not only will it do no harm to others,
But the sage herself will also be protected.
They do not hurt each other...

Practicing softening. Practicing meeting whatever comes my way with the Tao. No matter how unfair it feels. Doesn’t matter. This is the only answer.

Tao. Faith. Love. We are all human. We are all being human.

Where’s your place of practice this solstice – this transition between darkness and light?
